This gateway in Three Crowns Yard, named after a former inn on the High
Street, whose name is believed to originate from the The Three Kings of
the Orient', represents the yards of' hidden Harborough'. Most of the
good properties fronting the main streets had a warren of houses built
behind them in the early 19th century. In recent times some of the yards
have been redeveloped as here with its book shop and cafe.
